Dolores P. Fredericks, Music Director

& Coordinator of the 10 O' Clock Choir

As a member of the any of our four choirs you will have opportunities to provide music for:

†   All Saturday or Sunday Masses for which you have rehearsed.

†   Celebrations during the liturgical year,  which may include: Weddings,  Feasts , Holy Days, & Funerals

†   Other Liturgical Celebrations at Advent, Christmas,  Lent, & Easter seasons,  Homecoming Celebration, & other sacramental liturgies.

Rehearsals

The 8 am. Sunday and the 10 O' Clock Sunday choir  coordinated by Dolores Fredericks, rehearse every Monday evening 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the church.

The 5 O' Clock choir coordinated by Pat Sheets and Judy Holt jjholt@chartertn.net rehearses every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the church.

The Hispanic Choir coordinated by Raymond Isaac  risaac@voridian.com rehearses every Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the church.

The Children's/Youth Choir coordinated by Ann Jones & rehearses every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

†  Regular attendance is strongly encouraged.

†  When a  member has to miss more  than 2 rehearsals during a month, it is  suggested that they do not sing with the choir for the upcoming  Sunday celebration (unless checking with one of the directors). There are times when we all have to miss  rehearsals for a variety of good  reasons, but it is difficult to sing next to someone who either does not have all of the music

Music

†  Each choir member is provided  music and a file to hold it.

†  Each member must maintain their music and return it if they leave the choir or when  requested by the choir director.

† A personal cubicle is provided so music may be left at the church or  be taken back and forth each week from home.

 Mass

† Composure before, during and after all liturgies is important for the choir. As  ministers of the mass, we are in front of the congregation as leaders and strive not to distract parishioners who are praying.

†  Choir members should arrive in time to pray, warm up, get all needed music, & be ready to enter the church with the choir group before the mass begins.

†  Last minute instructions may be posted in the Choir room before mass.

†  Keep eyes on the director and the celebrant.

Robes & Choir Fund

†  Robes need to be hung up on the hanger matching the number in the robe.

†  Robes are light gray use caution to keep clean.

†  Robes will need cleaning periodically. It is anticipated the choir fund might pay for this or choir members who can afford it will pay to have their robe cleaned.

†  Paying $2.00 monthly dues to the choir fund, while optional, is encouraged. The dues are used for church and/or choir member support.

To the Congregation

† Our choirs are groups of people from all ages and walks of life who enjoy each other spiritually and socially. They have chosen this ministry in order to give their gifts of time, talent, and treasure in the service of our faith community by leading the members in sung prayer.

† A list of all members’ names and phone numbers is available. Please feel free to call any of us with any questions, concern, or “just to talk’,  at any time. We are glad you are here with us.

† Joining us is easy just come to any of the rehearsals listed above or call any the Choir Director or any choir coordinator, or come up after any mass and say to any member, "I would like to be a choir member."

†  The MISSION  of  a  CHOIR

“ a choir...can add beauty and solemnity to the liturgy and also assist and encourage the singing of the congregation. At times the choir, within the congregation of the faithful and as part of it, will assume the role of leadership, while at other times it will retain its own distinctive ministry. This means that the choir will lead the people in sung prayer, by alternating or reinforcing the sacred song of the congregation, or by enhancing it with the addition of a musical elaboration. At other times in the course of liturgical celebration the choir alone will sing works whose musical demands enlist and challenge its competence.” (National Conference of Catholic Bishops (1993). Bishops’ Committee on the Liturgy).
