Family Promise of Greater Johnson City (formerly IHN)

Family Promise (www.familypromisejc.com) is an established network of churches and community agencies responding to the needs of homeless families with children. In particular, this response provides an opportunity for homeless families to remain together as a family while addressing the challenges that confront them in obtaining housing. These families receive counseling, services, and opportunities on issues related to each family’s specific needs. An organized coalition of local churches provides temporary food and shelter for families involved in the program.

Justice-Peace-Integrity of Creation (JPIC)

JPIC promotes a spirituality that leads us as individuals and as church to celebrate life, act on behalf of justice and peace within the integrity of creation, and participate in the transformation of the world. Not only personal change is promoted but also structural change that will better defend, promote, and enhance life and allow the Kingdom of God to become more of a reality in our lives and in our world. Our sale of Fair Trade coffees, teas, and chocolates not only help the producers of these products but all profit is contributed to the support of the Parish Twinning ministry.

Parish Twinning

St. Mary’s Twinning Program is very active with two projects: Casa Laura Vicuña, a girl’s orphanage in Quito, Ecuador, and Visitation Clinic in Petite Riviere de Nippes, Haiti. Groups from our parish, including priests, deacons, and others, have personally visited each site. These projects are funded by the generous donations to St. Mary’s Twinning and fundraising projects by JPIC.

Respect Life Committee

St. Mary’s Respect Life Committee values and celebrates the life of every person from conception through natural death. We are committed through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead the parish community to a greater awareness of the many life issues through educational programs and opportunities for service.

St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church

The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides spiritual and material assistance to the needy in the Johnson City area. They maintain a food pantry as a part of this social awareness and action ministry, supplying non-perishable food items to families in need. The pantry volunteers prepare food boxes, return phone calls for food box requests, bring up boxes on Friday, distribute food boxes on Saturday, and make infrequent delivery of food boxes. The ministry relies on financial and food donations from the parishioners. The ministry does not discriminate in regard to race, ancestry, citizenship, sex, color, national origin, age, political or religious belief, sexual orientation, including gender identity, marital status, or disability, unfavorable discharge from the military or status as a protected veteran.
