First Communion 2017

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 we celebrated First Communion here at St. Mary’s.  We had 61 children receive their Lord  in the Holy Eucharist for the first time.  It was a wonderful celebration!

First Communion Retreat

We had our First Communion Retreat on Saturday, April 22, 2017.  The children made a Monstrance in crafts, learned about Adoration, had “Show and Tell” with Father Peter, read a story, and practiced for First Communion while the parents had their own classes.  The retreat started with Mass and ended with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.  It was a wonderful retreat!

Tracking Mary: Mysteries & Messages Vacation Bible School

TM LogoMark your calendars for Vacation Bible School June 26-30, 2017 in the mornings!  This year’s program entitled Tracking Mary: Mysteries & Messages, features the Queen of Heaven Express – a special holy train traveling to faraway places around the globe visited by our Blessed Mother: Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe, England, and Ireland.  Children discover how Mary brings us closer to Jesus through the power of the Rosary.  Mysteries and Messages are revealed at each stop.  The program focuses on Catholic identity and teaches the Bible from the Catholic perspective.  It introduces saints as faith heroes and heroines while encouraging family prayer through a daily Rosary.  Children will enjoy skits, activities, snacks, and games.

Registration forms can be found below or can be picked up in the church office.

If you are interested in helping out with this Vacation Bible School, please contact Judy Holt in the church office, 282-6367, or email at judy.holt@stmarysjc.org.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Cathedral Dedication Stone

The Children’s Faith Formation students learned about the Cathedral Dedication Stone in class on Wednesday night.  It was quarried from property in East Tennessee and representing the much larger cornerstone that weighs over a ton, was blessed by Pope Francis in the presence of Bishop Richard Stika and Cardinal Justin Rigali.  It was blessed in Vatican City by the Holy Father and is now on a pilgrimage stopping at every parish and mission in the Diocese of Knoxville.  It’s “pilgrimage” began in the “old” Cathedral church, and will conclude in the “new” Cathedral Church on the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 26, 2017.  Then, it will be placed within the Narthex (Gathering Area) of our new Cathedral Church.  Father Peter talked to the children too.
